Ear Wax Removal with microsuction
We offer microsuction ear wax removal, this is a procedure that involves using a high definition video otoscope or high resolution microscope giving us the ability to directly visualise the ear wax prior to and during removal. A low pressure suction machine is used to gently hoover out the wax. The procedure lasts between 15-30 minutes and this can vary dependant on the amount and type of wax present.
Unlike ear irrigation and ear syringing whereby the wax is flushed out blindly, the ear wax is visualised at all times during removal. This means the procedure is much safer, quicker and more comfortable.
The are many other benefits of ear Microsuction over irrigation including:
There is no need to apply ear drops for weeks before an appointment, its recommended if possible to use for 1-2 days before
No water is being forced or flushed into the ear canal as would happen with irrigation or syringing
Current NICE guidelines state: ear syringing, where a manual syringe pumps water into the ear is potentially harmful and should not be used
Can be performed on people with a history of perforated ear drum, grommets, mastoid cavity and cleft palate
The ability to safely remove foreign bodies that may be lodged inside the ear canal
Ear Wax Complications
